So took my wife to the Virgin Islands to celebrate her birthday and mother's day. We attended church today and afterwards drove to Magen Bay Beach to relax and enjoy the afternoon.
We were in the water relaxing talking when a school of fish began to swim around us. Was pretty cool and I figured they would swim away after a few seconds. Not so much. A sizeable number refused to leave us. It didn't bother me, but it was freaking my wife out a bit. I was about to tell her not to worry about it when suddenly all around us Pelicans were dive bombing.
Now we've experienced watching these birds dive bomb in a school of fish while observing from the beach or cliffs. However, being in the middle of an avian battle of midway scene was quite shocking.
We stayed put as fish continued to use us as shelter from impending doom.
Quite the experience having a pelican slam it's body into the water so close to you. They seemed oblivious to us and others who were also in the water.
