Having watched many or most of his interviews and press conferences over the years, some of the words I might use to describe his personality are reserved, deliberately a little dry and sarcastic, and funny. Some of my best friends in life have personalities like that. Throw in the fact that I do believe his disdain for the spotlight is sincere, and the way he acts makes a lot of sense.

My opinion is that he loves basketball. He LOVES his teammates. His discomfort/awkwardness with the spotlight wears on him - and it's amplified this time of the year. I hope he plays for ten more years. His game is built so that it shouldn't drop off much, as he ages. He could end up obliviating certain records. My worry is that he will decide the public part of it doesn't make up for all the positives, so he will retire earlier than he could.

He did an extended inteview for MPJ's podcast this year where he talked in depth about why it all makes him uncomfortable. As someone who is already a fan of his, I loved the insight it gave into some of his perceived grumpiness. He's a guy I would deeply admire, if he was simply someone I knew from work or church. That he does it in a workplace full of divas and inflated egos makes him fascinating to me.
