Lots of great suggestions, but the easiest and most fun answer is to
drop a match on it and burn it off. Get some hotdog sticks ready and let the kids make bacon smoked hotdogs for dinner.

I've used brake pad cleaner with good success. The key is to rinse well after using any cleaning product or it may stain
