There was no fence back then and we got much closer to the planes. No security guards either. And these were large planes, British Airways with 2 engines under each wing. And because the runway was a bit shorter, these planes would all power up with their brakes on and then "pop the clutch" so to speak.

It was when they were powering up the engines, that was a blast! Little rocks and other debris would hit you and yes, it hurt. But that was a fun activity.

Too bad this happened to this lady.
