There are large and important industries run by people who could not do what they do without what they learned at a university (along with what they learned after college but for which their university training provided a necessary foundation). And tomorrow's leaders of those industries are in universities today.

Again, of course there is bloat and suboptimal investment, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
