They have their own special requirements for wholesalers....IIRC cheaper is best

I think winco buys then sells near expired produce and meat.

Fred Meyer is under Kroger, and Smith's is the same company in Utah, but I haven't noticed a great difference in produce

With apples, it's mostly about the variety for me. Costco always has gala or fuji, which are pretty bland. I've found

Wait, doesn't everyone do this? The cheese isn't actually bad on the inside, just cut off the mold and you're good to go

most of the cheese is moldy as it ages...they just cut it off before you see it
