as far as I could see Jake's BIGGEST problem his 2nd year was his naive overconfidence. Kid really thought our offense (w him under center, of course) would move on anyone. When it didn't — & when Doman's system & gameplan meant a lot more defenders in his face than Anae's system — Jake morphed into a mental mitten (edited).
That's one reason I want a seasoned QB behind center opening game. Yes, a Sophomore Heaps had some experience, but he still had a TON to learn about the basics of the college game. Particularly against good defenses — which he hadn't faced all too much at that point (the yewts the year before KINDA counted).
