I love Kershaw, but at this point, it seems obvious that he is never going to be that guy that you can count on to win you two games in the World Series. I don’t know that THAT guy is available in this year’s free agent class, but if it is, it would be Corbin or Kuechel (and I don’t think Kuechel fits the bill anymore either).
I guess that if they signed Harper or Machado, they could package some of the resulting “excess” position players like Seagar, Verdugo, or Bellinger and try to make a deal for Kluber, who the Indians appear to be making available, but then you’re adding TWO $30 million+ players........
I guess I’d rather have them go into the season with what they have now (plus a couple of new mid-priced arms for the bullpen) and see which pitcher might be available at the trade deadline. The offense should be fine if Seager comes back healthy, Bellinger hits more like 2017 Bellinger, and Muncy does anything close to what he did last year.
