Football narrative: program bottomed out in 2017, but getting Sitake recruits in, and they are showing promise. A bunch of freshman played, and played well. So shedding back ups who were Bronco guys and a part of a poor 2017 season doesn't hurt, it makes room for more freshman phenoms.
Basketball narrative: Rose stabilized the program, then got the best recruiting classes we've ever had about 2-6 years ago. Our best recruits ever have not won the WCC, haven't made the tournament, and in fact, it feels like we're moving further and further away from Gonzaga in conference. When players who were a part of the best recruiting classes ever start leaving and the program failed to rise with the best recruits ever, the narrative seems to trend down.
These are just broad impressions. I'm a Rose fan and give him as much rope as he wants. But it's hard to argue these trends.
