Mike Mussina is my favorite player ever. Today is an amazing day.
Honestly thought it wouldn’t happen until next year. But this is amazing.

Here’s some Mussina stats for you:

18 seasons, all in the AL East, with many coming during the height of the steroid era
82.2 fWAR
82.9 BWAR
3.68 ERA (123 ERA +)

These ranking are a a bit old, but here’s how Mussina would rank among the 62 HOF SP as of December 2017:

K’s- 16th
BB- 11th
K/BB- 2nd
WAR- 23rd
ERA+- 30th
IP- 41st

Here’s some HOF SP averages for you, compared to Mussina in parenthesis:

ERA+: 123 (123)
WAR: 72.7 (82.9)

Postseason performance compared to some HOFers + Andy Pettitte (known for his postseason track record)?

Postseason ERA:

Mussina: 3.42
Pedro: 3.46
Randy Johnson: 3.50
Clemens: 3.75
Pettitte: 3.81

Mussina’s career was full of almosts. He almost won the CY, coming in 2nd in 1999. He was top 5 in the CY 6 times, and top 6 9 times. He almost won the World Series, with fellow HOFer Mariano blowing his closest chance in the 9th inning in 2001. He almost won 20 games, until he finally did in his last and 18th season of his career. He almost pitched multiple perfect games, including this one when TCuz was 9 years old. Mussina was 1 strike away, facing the Sox at Fenway, when Carl Everett blooped a single into the OF.

Mussina was never the most dominant pitcher in any given year. But he was among the absolute best this game has ever seen for almost 20 years.

By the way, anyone questioning Roy Halladay today, or are we only gonna slander Mussina? Because Mussina’s career WAR bests Halladay by a comfortable margin. 82.9-65.5

Mike Mussina. Hall of Farmer. And he deserved it. Moose!
