Then why the need for the rule? Pitchers, including myself would take a deep breathe or take time to play mind games
This rule would have prevented Bob Gibson’s famous threat and his overall intimidation.
During a game a batter dug in. Seeing that, Bob walked half way to the plate and informed the batter, he was going to die there!
Next pitch was under the batters chin...
I would take my time on the mound for a variety of reasons. With that said, 30 and not 20 would be adequate time.
