Agree with Alisa. It's sad that the HC motivates many NOT to repent.

We all sin and all need to repent and come to our Savior Jesus Christ. All of us. BYU and the HC office send a mixed and confusing message to the BYU student body and the world.

Obviously, it depends on the nature and gravity of sin and what victims might be involved, but you can gratefully still get an ecclesiastical endorsement from your bishop even when you are going through a serious repentance process related to many issues.

I'm all for the meat of the honor code (though I think the facial-hair thing is weird - it's BYU, not the MTC, I can go to the Temple but not the Testing Center?).

But, I am not for the honor code enforcement office beyond academic issues, cheating, and serious issues (criminal conduct like rape, illegal drug-use, theft, etc.). The ecclesiastical endorsement should take care of most Word of Wisdom, pornography addiction, and other morality issues. And, yes, certain morality issues will disqualify you from the ecclesiastical endorsement. But, let that stay between the individual and his or her bishop.
