I took the time to organize all my photos I to named folders like "Vacation" or "Family" or whatever else and then subfolders in each one. That allows me to find pictures quickly if it was a specific event. But you can also just click on the overall photos folder in Lightroom and it will sort everything by date.

We have over a TB of photos and video and it works for us, although video is a little hit or miss.

But when you import your videos it will recognize duplicates and not import the duplicates.
