1. I have a hard time believing that Childs coming back was the catalyst in Dastrup leaving. If it was, then Dastrup is not very bright (which I just don't believe). If Dave Rose actually believed that, he was being intentionally obtuse. That sounds like a story somebody might tell themselves to make themselves feel better about what happened.
2. From the outside it sure seems like these young men are getting bad advice or are just making poor decisions. That being said, I REALLY DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL DATA. I have heard guesses about how much some players are making overseas, but I can't really trust them. If they are true, then the decisions to leave were likely not good decisions. I hope that someone is collecting the real numbers of what is happening to the players who transfer, declare early, and the ones who stick it out, in order to help these guys make the best decisions they can.
3. I think Dave Rose's health has been a bigger factor in the direction of the program than we knew. I think it has affected everything, from his relationship with his players to his recruiting and coaching philosophies. I hope he has a long and restful retirement. He's earned it.
4. I wish Dastrup AND Childs were still at BYU for this coming year.
