No question Crowton botched things
However, Engemann had shown weird inconsistency before Crowton.

They did some article about him where I believe Engemann himself referred to a quote about some aristocrat from days gone by. It said something to the effect that “He was at his best when times were good.”

Engemann could get rolling and look amazing, but you never knew what version would show up.

No question Crowton’s all-time clown show at QB in 2002 didn’t help matters. You couldn’t tell who the 4- deep was, with Crowton sporadically inserting his alleged 4th string, running QB Pendleton. The idea of pulling Ben Olson’s redshirt loomed over the whole spectacle. Of course a guy like Engemann would struggle amidst all that.

Letting an NFL-active roster (Sorensen) QB pass through our program unnoticed while broke-back Riley started and played horrifically (wasting an incredible D) is the only case of QB mismanagement that can rival the 2002 circus.
