There are a ton of factors when it comes to the performance of teams.

Having money always helps a program but isn't the lone reason for success.

For BYU I think recent failures on the field can be summed up in the following:
1 - Bad coaching
2 - Poor recruiting
3 - Rise of direct competition (Utah)
4 - Honor Code enforcement

And these are all intertwined to a large degree.
