This is confusing. Seems like it should be fairly standard to run quite a bit faster than your typical pace during a
race even when you don't plan on winning so that you can beat your personal best. That should be uncomfortable but may still be enjoyable.

I would argue that most people who sign up for a 5k are actually trying to get a good time. As in a much faster time
