To some point we are, as much as we allow the hormonal stimulus influence our actions.
However, I'd imagine there are few to no people who are addicted to milk but many that are to alcohol.
Substance certainly has an effect.
But when you get down to the root of it, the hormonal stimulus is what drives addiction.
