Honestly...can you see BYU getting an invite in the late 90's and seriously turning it down?
Sadly...yes....yes I can.
Not now, of course, because there is so much dialogue and politics involved.
But back in the day when the BYU AD was JUUUUUST starting to become corrupt and incompetent and complacent? Oh absolutely. The end of Rondo Fehlberg and the hiring of Tom Holmoe meant a lot of things for BYU athletics and even academics.
