However, regardless of what the voters are doing preseason, they aren't very accurate either way. 538 ran an analysis of 32 teams that consistently rank in the top 25 preseason over a 20-year span, and the rankings showed that the preseason voters were right 10% of the time, they over ranked the teams 54% of the time, and under ranked the teams 36% of the time. In other words, the preseason rankings are basically useless.
