...brakes the entire game. I remember a series where the drive stalled close to the UVA 30 yd line. Would’ve been a 49 yd FG iirc. I understand coaches not wanting to give it a try in the weather but would’ve rather seen us go for it on 4th down than to see us punt (which is what we did). In my mind a pooch punt in that weather is no more reliable than a FG attempt and so there was little to nothing to gain from punting so close to their end zone.
Sure enough, the punt went into the end zone and UVA got the ball at their 20 yd line (giving us a net gain of 12 yds or so in field position). Very next play from scrimmage UVA completed a 14 yd pass and erased whatever minimal gain we made from punting. We might as well tried the FG, 3 pts would’ve made a huge difference in a game we lost 19-16.
