My schedule definitely isn't wide open each year and I have plenty of other things I am juggling, but I put priority on the games and right as the schedule is released each year I block off that entire Saturday or Thursday/Friday night (since it can't be during the day on the weekdays) for football, regardless of the time they eventually schedule. If you really want to make it and put a high enough priority on it, you find a way to make it work.
