both the stage and opportunities it presents (bowls). And then you add in the guys who just flat out don't want what BYU has to offer. It's not for everyone. There will always be plenty who just don't want the BYU experience, even the LDS ones. And as Utah grows, I think there are more and more transplants who may not really have any ties to either in-state program.
Now, this is specifically about the high end guys. Just saying there will always be some who just flat out aren't interested and never will be. But part 2 of my post is that winning absolutely says something to the guys who might be on the fence. Does it change someone like Sewell? No way. Could it help influence someone like Suamataia? It sure could. Winning plus finally getting guys in the NFL again. Something we embarrassingly haven't done at that position in too long.
Part 3, I don't think one win ever sends much of a message. You still have to string together a collective season. BYU had a big win last year and then crapped themselves the next week. But if recruits can look at Tennessee and THEN USC and THEN so and so and so on, that sends a message. One game is a start, especially when recruits are in house. But it's all tricky and this win isn't going to influence guys who were never choosing BYU anyway... And there's a solid portion of the top end recruits in state who are that way. Lucky for us, they don't want Utah either.
