According to this thread in r/help, it seems its an all or nothing setting

The thread is only one month old. I'm no programmer, but it seems like it shouldn't be too terribly difficult to restrict notifications to subscribed subreddits. The good news for you is it likely means more time on CB and less time on reddit.
