It's awesome.
It used to be that there were no playoffs. Just the two pennant winners in the WS.
Baseball tries to keep its playoffs concise.
Like you said, teams had 162 games to prove they deserved more than a spot in the wild card game. Wildcard teams should be thankful for the chance to have a one-game playoff for the spot. Win it or be done.
