Look the cold hard truth to where we are is that we dont have control over our situation. We gave up control when we left a conference. The steady decline was predicted and it came to fruition. We are not ND. Why do we win vs USC and Tenn? It's simple. USC and Tenn wasnt in conference play. They weren't going to show their full hands. Why because conference play means everything. It saves seasons, it saves coaching careers, it saves fan bases. We busted our butts to beat usc and tenn. Our depth isnt sustainable. Why? We recruit players to come play several marquee games a year, and on the other side of the fence is Utah and usc who can boast a steady dose of competition all year. They can drop a game and still have a season long fight at a chance for a championship. Unless we are in a conference, we are a traveling museum of a once great program with a solid 20 year run at conference championships, and one Natty.

Coach Sitaki is the best we can do right now. He has loyalty to the program and the players. But he is handcuffed by the very reasons that pushed Bronco out the door. This cycle of defeat wont stop until we get back into a conference. Give up the pride of needing a power 5 invite. Step away from the Utah envy, and make our own mark. We need a conference affiliation NOW. It would dumb down the competion long enough for us to gain some ground. Our players would have motivation to play for a conference championship, or at least spoiling one in the rebuilding years. We can have a clause that allows us to depart should a power 5 invite arise. But traveling across the country to lose to a g5 team, or bolstering our egos while eeking out wins over p5 teams who arent showing their full arsenal in exhibition games is not helping BYU football achieve it's full potential. Finally if we fire a coach we will need 5 years to rebuild. 5! Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot.
