I think wireless charging is largely a gimmick at this point because you still have to be tied to a certain spot where there is a charging pad plugged in to a wall. Is it really worth it to go buy added equipment so you can set your phone on a table top instead of havingthe extra step of pushing in the plug? But if new phones come with some sort of wireless charging equipment and getting rid of the physical port means other positive improvements can happen to our tech I am all for it.
But I don't think the lightning/USB-C/MicroUSB ports are holding anything back right now. The camera lenses seem to be the limiting factor on any kind of thinness or structural changes right now.
