Not a big difference between 8-5 vs. 7-6 in football
BYU football will finish the season unranked either way. The outcome of the bowl game won’t do much for the program or the perception of it.
But if BYU goes 5-1 against Gonzaga/SMC and wins the WCC tournament? BYU hasn’t won a conference tournament in 2 decades and hasn’t gone dancing in March in 4. BYU would be close to ranked in that scenario. That would do a lot more good for the basketball program.
