Kylo Ren was practically a Sith Lord and had been trained in the Force his entire life and presumably had a lot more combat experience with a lightsaber whereas Rey had zero force training and had never once picked up a lightsaber let alone fought with one.

It just doesn't make sense that she would so easily defeat him at their first meeting.
