I don't know if it was actively snowing for you when you left, but often I have found that the garage door won't close
when it's snowing unless I stand at the controller (inside the garage) and keep the button pressed until it is down.

It's because falling snowflakes trip the sensor and make the opener think there is someone or something in the path of the closing door. It's a real pain (stupid snowflakes!).

So if it was snowing for you this morning, that may have been the cause. If not then the best explanation is:
