If he does he can just apply for his own tag.

If he doesn’t then it would probably be pretty tough to get it by the time the application window closes.

However, he could still shoot a deer while hunting with you and using your tag.

You would have to apply and draw the tag.

The mentoring program allows a new hunter to be introduced to hunting even though they don’t yet have their hunter safety.
