Ms CS is an Austen fan and it was fascinating visiting a city that was already a tourist destination 250 years ago. In addition to the Austen angle, Bath is a World Historical site with hot springs and well preserved Roman baths. The Bath Cathedral is worth seeing. And it's the beginning of the insanely scenic Cotswold region. I didn't realize this as we drove the relatively short distance from London to Bath, but had to pull over to the side of the road with a small, unmarked overlook of a small unnamed valley with sheep grazing in fields bounded by ancient rock walls. It was fabulous--and just the beginning of a beautiful, pastoral region.
