As they said in the press conference today, the data has revealed this much:
either there is a considerable amount of asymptomatic population with the Virus (like 99%) or we are very much overestimating its communicability.
Have draconian measures had to affect? Yes, obviously. But NY is a perfect example of the reality that this virus has been here for a long time. Many in Jan/Feb and maybe even December of last year have already had it, went through it, and lived to tell the tale. How many more had it and had no idea they did? Probably tens and tens of thousands.
