It's written for parents, but it's good for kids, too. Your son might be one or two years from being able to appreciate it, however. The biggest thing Devin comes back to again and again is that you have to work harder than anybody else at your sport. You have to be freakishly motivated.

Early in the book, Devin talks about starting his summer vacation after about 8th grade. He was glad to get a break from a hard, demanding coach at school. Devin was sitting on the couch watching TV and eating ice cream. Then he decided he was wasting time. He put the ice cream away and went out on his driveway and started shooting hoops in the heat of a Kentucky afternoon. That, he says, was the day he became an All-American.
