Especially when we go back to the 20th century. For most of the century, I feel like those who are on the spectrum that aren't blatantly autistic would just be seen as weird ducks. But seems like these days, there is more of a "reason" for it.
My aunt has Asperger's and for years my family just thought she was kind of awkward. Didn't find out there was actually something to it until fairly recently.
