Honest question: how do parents watch cross country?

Do they all position at the finish line or at various points along the trail? I have never witnessed an event. I have been to marathons to watch my daughter at the finish line but that’s it seems like a tough sport to enjoy experiencing with your family.

the courses usually consist of 2 to 3 loops that you can easily see them go by

Usually the course is somewhat a circle with some courses having multiple laps.
