He was told by his superiors in the Italian Army that if he needs to surrender, be sure to surrender to Americans. So, he did. He was subsequently sent to Fort Ruston, LA. He said he loved it there. He said the food was great and he had cheeseburgers a couple of times a week. He was assigned to work on a farm which he enjoyed. I think I remember him saying he took some college classes or something similar. He said he enjoyed trying to pick up American women. The only English he could remember from his stay at the camp was "Hey good lookin'! Wanna neck?" He said he was sad when it was time to go back to Italy.
