There are still honest people in this world...
The other evening our son (22 years old) called us to tell us someone had rear ended him. For background, he bought the car himself and is still making payments on it, but it is on our insurance.

He had exited the freeway and got to the end of the exit ramp and stopped at the red light. While stopped, a car hit him from behind. It wasn't high speed, but enough to visibly dent and scratch the bumper. The guy that hit him was also in his 20s, and driving an older car. They exchanged insurance info. My son called the police. The police asked my son if he wanted them to come out and write up a report, and my son said no. He called us after he got home to let us know what happened. Of course, my concerns were that the guy gave him bad insurance info, and/or without a police report there would be problems with the claim, etc.

So, we had our son go on our insurance app and enter all the information. He didn't submit a claim, just gave them the info in case a claim became necessary later. Then he went to the other guy's insurance website (GEICO) to find info on their process. His plan was to call GEICO and a) notify them of the accident and b) find out if the guy's insurance info was correct and current. While he was on the website looking for the number to call, GEICO called him. GEICO verified all of my son's information, and gave him the name and address of a body shop near him and told him he had an appointment the next morning at 10:00 a.m. to take his car to the shop, and there would be a rental car there ready for him to use for as long as it took for the car to be repaired.

So, within 2 hours of the accident, the guy who hit my son had notified his insurance, and GEICO had made all the arrangements and notified my son what he needed to do. I was impressed, especially because all of this was happening after hours. The accident was at about 7:00 p.m., and GEICO called my son about 9:00 p.m.

The next morning my son took his car to the shop and they gave him a rental car. Later that day the called and told him what the damage was (over $2,500) and that they would need 3-4 days to complete repairs.

So, shout out to the dude for owning up to it and reporting it to his insurance so quickly, and shout out to GEICO for making things incredibly easy for my son.
