I feel like Malone was a dominant force in the NBA and would have been playing with whoever. Based on his work ethic, talent and drive. I think he would have been the same player on most any team.
I love Stock as much as the next Jazz fan, but when you have someone dominating the post like Karl did for 30+ points a night for like 20 years it's real easy to rack up assists. With that said, my biggest fault with Stockton since I was a kid was that he wasn't selfish enough at times. He was skilled enough to take over games and dominate if he wanted, but he was too focused on being a "pure" point guard. Sometimes that team needed a guy to go get 5 buckets in a row in whatever way possible and I think he had that ability.
In the end I think like any great player they both took advantage of the situation they were in. I think both would have had impressive careers in other situations, but taking them together I think Karl contributed more to Stock's numbers than the other way around.
