We are thinking of going in on buying a cabin property in the next couple years. We would go in on the property with a family member or two and rent it the time we are not using it.

Any pointers it general rules of thumb in that type of model.

Not expecting renting it out to totally offset the cost of a mortgage on it, but interested in figuring out how much it would offset the cost and what total cost of ownership would be going forward.
