Remember, Apple's big differentiator used to be different CPUs than the x86s
Then 20 years ago, they realized that wasn't actually a good thing.

At least ARM is a common chip now thanks to smartphones and tablets, so they aren't branching off into something totally unknown, but I think this is going to bite them.

All things told, there's a reason that x86 is the standard for computers instead of PowerPC, RISC, or ARM.

I've been seeing predictions of ARM-based servers beating up the x86 for nearly a decade now, and they've all fallen flat. Frankly, the most common ARM powered server I've seen is just a Raspberry Pi, and nobody is using those for anything intensive.
