I live in Tokyo and masks seem to make a difference here. Tokyo has a population 10x larger than Utah, much denser, and there are only ~200 daily cases. I agree with you that the virus will eventually spread through the entire population, but I think masks slow down the spread. Ideally the spread would be slowed until a vaccination is developed. That would save lives.
This is coming from someone who 6 months ago thought masks were stupid.
