As both a previous academic and sports scholarship recipient it became obvious to me that sports was way more work than it was worth. Athletes still have to go to classes and get good grades to graduate, but additionally having to find 2-4 hours every day for practice/working out was prohibitive for academic success (at least getting the kind of grades I wanted). On top of that, working out all the time was so tiring. I would sometimes come home from practice in the early afternoon and sit on the couch exhausted and next thing I knew I was waking up the next morning after 12 hours of unintended sleep. I did the math and came to the conclusion that I would be better off financially just working a couple hours per day as a tutor instead of spending me life in practice and perpetual tiredness.
