Threw high 70s back when I was in my early 20s
Cracked 80 a few times. It’s super duper hard to get past 90. The strongest guy I knew was around 85.

That's hopping. My 12 year old throws 53 on a good day. He's behind on

At that age it's not the speed that usually kills. It's the junk.

I strongly, emphatically, recommend against the curveball at the vast majority

You should read the Andrews group study from 2015. Curveballs are NOT a causative factor in arm injuries

If the goal is to win games at 12u, then I can see the value of curves. Problem

Did you read my 2nd paragraph?
SJS

It was 2011, just read the study. It didn't find a link to injury, but that

You didn’t find the right study. But you do you.

Why so sensitive? Dr Andrews published 3 baseball articles in 2015, none looking

You’re literally disagreeing with the main point of the study you can’t find. I’m not home, will find it later and BM it

I'll be really happy to read it. Since I have a son who is really heavy into
doctorcoug
8/8/20 11:31am
Unless he throws from a really high release point, he should throw a slider anyways
SJS

And here’s a link for a knuckle curve

I'll take a look. As you said earlier, I really think the best way to go is to

Locating and alternating velocity is much more important than max velocity

My son who throws in the 90’s and got college offers as a pitcher didn’t throw..

What my son does at 12u won't equate to what he will do as a senior. He doesn't

The better 14U pitchers this season were hitting around 75. 68 in 12U is really

His velo is near the top in the state for 12u, but he plays 13u. For the kids

those ones are notoriously off to avoid people guessing correctly (esp. those who know how fast they normally throw)
