The outlook is better now than it was 4 months ago. Unless you get a job somewhere that you made contacts with during rotations, it is going to be rough getting interviews until you have passed your boards and are fully licensed. So get that PANCE passed and likely apply for a license in a couple states where you are going to be looking for jobs. Some HR departments won't even pass your resume and application onto the manager for the department unless every minimum requirement like being licensed is met.

Try to send emails and your CV directly to a doc or manager in addition to applying on a website. That will help ensure your resume gets seen by the people actually looking to hire someone.

Your salary negotiating ability is low in specialty fields like surgery coming right out of school. There is still a learning curve and training needed for any specialty. So just get your foot in the door and once you are more established in a specialty, if that group doesn't want to up your pay then you have a lot more experience and training under your belt that will make you a more desirable candidate for a higher paying job opening.
