LEDSFW Intervention Needed
Neither...to much regional love. I like BYU moving about the country each year.
Not that games vs MSU, Missouri and Okee State are not good, but why so much love for USU and Boise State. Yes they are on schedule for the next half a millennium, but realistically, why? What's in it for BYU? If BYU is playing 4-5 P5's a year, why bother with Boysenberry (we paint our grass blue gimmicky narcissism) State. As for Stanford, meh. They are one of three programs in the entire PAC that at the time chose UTAH over BYU. I have to admit, I love the whole science connection to Stanford (Linear Accelerator Physics) and Cal (LL Labs), but beyond that, is football really a big deal there anymore. Stanford can barely half fill its beautiful and almost new 50,000 seat stadium.

My point is if you are really going to talk hypothetical schedules then play UNLV in the new Stadium down here, not Nevada. Play ASU, a program that has far more connections to BYU than Arizona. Play USC/UCLA not Stanford or Cal. When you go east, schedule games for members, but be cognizant of the travel difficulties so do not over-schedule unless you are getting a guaranteed home and home. But play a Vanderbilt, a North Carolina, an Illinois or Indiana. Play UMass and Liberty. Play Some more Big12 teams and get around the nation. But playing USU just to help USU financially when it gets $12 million a year from UTAH TAXPAYERS and BYU get $0...oh heck no. Same with UTAH, heck no. BYU cannot be compelled to further subsidize their programs with games unless the state legislature wants to pony up some equal community equity grants (justification for USU and UTAH to get tens of millions while BYU pays its own freight).

The MWC teams that have remained good friends to BYU should continue to pepper the schedule. Forget the fans, this is about department relationships. But do not worry about helping fill 30,000 seat stadiums when yours seats 64,000. And BYU is an independent. It should be playing 7-8 home games a year like Notre Dame, or an SEC team, not six. And lower the price on cheap seats with package deals that Utah County families cannot pass up. FILL THE STADIUM EVERY GAME, make money on the popcorn and cougar tales. That's how I feel about it.
