Takeaways after watching recaps of every UTSA game

With wins against Texas St. (51-48), SFA (24-10), MTSU (37-35) and a loss last week against UAB (21-13) I think it's fair to say that UTSA has faced a similar competition level that BYU has. Not quite as difficult, but similar. UTSA should really have a record of 2-2 if it wasn't for Texas St.'s kicker missing two chip shots towards the end of that game.

Starting quarterback Frank Harris (RS JR) is a legitimate dual-threat quarterback. He is tied with Zach Wilson for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback this season with 5. Harris is a game time decision for Saturday but expect him to play. If Harris is unavailable UTSA will have to go with Jordan Weeks (RS SO) which will make for a long day for UTSA.

Alongside Harris, starting running back Sincere McCormick (SO) is another threat on the ground. He leads the nation in rushing yards with 527 on the season (131.75 per game). Strong and shifty back similar to La. Tech's starter but with more speed. UTSA lacks a consistent passing attack so everything relies on the success of the run for them.

On the defensive end UTSA possess a decent defensive line but a very susceptible secondary. They force teams into third and long but then struggle to stop the pass in these situations. It's also rare to see UTSA blitz as they know their secondary isn't reliable enough to go into man coverage. Expect large yardage plays from BYU to continue.

Despite this, UTSA is 11th in the nation in turnover margin with +1.25. They have intercepted opposing quarterbacks seven times already this year. Their defensive scheme has been productive so far with a bend but don't break mentality.

Starting place kicker Hunter Duplessis (RS SR) is very solid.

UTSA has the potential to score the most points we've seen scored on the BYU defense this year, but it still doesn't look to be a close game. BYU has too many strengths where UTSA has a weakness. It'll be a good test for the run defense and an opportunity for the passing game to remain dominant.
