I always question that too??
Used to be 10% standard years ago. price of the food has gone up 4-5 times over the past few decades, keeping up with or exceeding inflation. 10% on that higher restaurant bill would give the server a higher tip in real dollars than what they got years ago. So why did it go to 20%-30%? I don't understand the math.
