The frustrating thing is that if you get the ACTUAL details out there (agreeing to the Pac-12's ridiculous conditions just for the chance to be on standby for a possible game that could get cancelled at any time), it's not hard for reasonable people to see that it was a horrible deal for BYU. By saying nothing, then you let the "BYU backed out of a game at UW" narrative propagate.
