It doesn't matter where Oregon and the B12 projected champ are
We might as well permanently plug them in to spots #5 and #6 because they'll be automatically included in a NY6 game.

All of the P5 conference champions get to play in a NY6 bowl. The SEC, ACC and B1G champions will make the playoffs under most likely scenarios. It doesn't matter whether BYU gets ranked ahead of P12 #1 and B12 #1 or not. Those two teams will always get in to a NY6 ahead of BYU. EIther plug them in at 5 and 6 or 11 and 12. THey're not making the playoffs, but they will be in the 12 teams selected.

Add in the G5 autobid, and you have 5 spots left. Is BYU one of the top 5 teams among the group that includes:
Florida
aTm
Northwestern
Miami
BYU
Georgia
Iowa State/Oklahoma (B12 #2 team)
USC/Oregon (P12 #2 team)
Indiana

There are 9 teams that currently have an argument that they should be included. Can BYU make a case that they're in the top 5 of those 9 teams.

A couple of those teams will lose additional games and knock themselves out of contention. I don't think the B12 #2 or the P12 #2 will be in the conversation at the end of the season. We really need Indiana to lose again. It would also be really helpful if Auburn can knock off aTm next week. Also scenarios that would help significantly would be Miami losing to UNC next week and Oklahoma beating Iowa State in the B12 championship game.

If two or more of those things happen, BYU's a safe bet for a NY6 game. If none of those things happen, we'll likely be on the outside looking in.
